This summer, we’ve undertaken a expanded version of this ecotourism project, and this fall we’re launching the Great Plains Ecotourism Coalition.

The Great Plains Ecotourism Coalition (GPEC) is a group committed to promoting environmental conservation through nature-based tourism in the Great Plains.
The Coalition works to:
• Connect nature-based entrepreneurs to one another, creating opportunities for collaboration and cooperation.
• Market the region to ecotourists in the United States and beyond through targeted and creative advertising campaigns.
• Share information about ecotourism to participating members through a website and an electronic newsletter.

To further this mission, we’ve created a set of 12 Great Plains posters based on a 1930s series of U.S. National Parks posters produced by the Works Progress Administration. We’ll release two posters on this site and via our social media each Tuesday from Sept. 30 to Nov. 4. On Nov. 7, the public is invited to a poster unveiling at the Great Plains Art Museum in Lincoln, Neb. on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus. Posters will be on display from 5 to 7 p.m. on Nov. 7 with a short presentation at 5:30 p.m. by Center for Great Plains Studies Director Rick Edwards and Center Ecotourism Consultant Kat Shiffler. The event is free and open to the public.

The posters will be displayed in the lobby of the art museum through the end of the year. The posters will be for sale as both a postcard book and individual posters as soon as all 12 have been revealed (Nov. 4). Look for a link coming soon.
